Sieg mini machines.. Are they good?
Posts: 290. I have Sieg X2 mini mill & C3 14"x7" mini lathe. For the money they are excellent. Bought both from ebay - seller ozmestore1. I did strip both machines & did some "tuning" - gib adjustment, lapping, etc. Improved accuracy quite a bit. One excellent site to visit is mini-lathe.

The SX4 is definitely an upgrade from any of the other Sieg mills, is it much more rigid and starts to cross the boundary from mini mill to decent size bench mill - yes spindle speed is not ideal but that can be fixed to a limit. Axminster may have a few more of their SX4's without DROs.

A problem with the Sieg X2 mini-mill [HF 44991, Grizzly G8689, Micro-Mark & others] is that the head can suddenly drop down while you're milling.Everything will seem fine until the head suddenly drops a bit, which causes the end mill to try to cut too much metal at once, causing the table to start shaking as much as the play in the gibs allows.
Harbor Freight or Little Machine Shop Mini Mill?
I did join the Mini Mill forum and took a look through it. There is not too much going on over there. Since I have a mini-lathe (Tormach/Sieg) I find this forum much more active and comfortable. I did look at the Sieg X2D but I figured I was going to spend more, another $300 was worth it for the 3990.
